NGC 4565: The Needle Galaxy

NGC 4565 is one of the best-known edge-on spiral galaxies in the night sky. Because we see it from the side, it appears as a long thin streak with a bright central bulge. Dark dust lanes running through the disk help create the classic 'needle' appearance.

What to Notice

In your image, the bright center is the galaxy core packed with stars. The long thin shape is the spiral disk seen edge-on. With more exposure time, the dark dust lane becomes easier to capture.
