NGC 4565: The Needle Galaxy
NGC 4565 is one of the best-known edge-on spiral galaxies in the night sky. Because we see it from the side, it appears as a long thin streak with a bright central bulge. Dark dust lanes running through the disk help create the classic 'needle' appearance.
